In all these situations, you are overcome with frustration. But don’t worry, you have more rights than you think and you have the right to be compensated. We explain how to make a claim to your airline.

You can always do it with the complaint forms that the company must have available to customers at the information desks. You can also use the following form. On the complaint forms, please describe everything in as much detail as possible. Keep your original ticket and any emails or conversations you have had with the airline.
If you do not receive a response within a month or if it is an unsatisfactory response, you can file a complaint with EASA.
In the world there is a huge amount of money pending to be claimed by users with problems in their flights. Are you going to be one of them? We tell you how to act. If you have suffered a justifiable economic loss due to the delay, you can also apply for it.

For example (real case): you book a travel package for 10 days at the destination. But because of the delay you lose the first day of excursions and departures… you can also ask for a refund proportional to the lost time of the package. It would be 10% of the value of the travel pack.

If it is a flight cancellation, you have several rights, but the first is the right to information, in which the company must provide you with the information about flight cancellations that you need. It must also tell you communications about compensation, assistance and the different options available to you to reach your destination as soon as possible.

  • If for some reason you pay for another flight or means of transport to reach your destination, you can also claim for the expenses you incurred to reach your destination.
  • If the alternative transportation offered to you is the next day, you are entitled to have the airline pay you for one night’s accommodation and the means of getting to your destination.

Cases of overbooking

What is overbooking? This is that the company has sold more tickets than the plane actually has available, to ensure that it goes fulfilling avoiding last minute cancellations. The company will ask you to surrender your reservation with certain benefits. If you choose to change your route, the airline must offer you at least one or two nights’ accommodation, transportation from the airport and food if necessary.

If you want to access the flight but you are not allowed to board you will be entitled to a compensation of between 250 and 600 euros (depending on the flight distance and delays).

  • Less than 1,500 km: 250 €
  • between 1,500 and 3,500 km: 400 €
  • More than 3,500 km: 600 €

But BEWARE! If the company has offered you an alternative with a difference of no more than 3 hours of arrival at your destination, you will not be entitled to these compensations.

Also if one of the companies is Ryanair we have to tell you that they usually do not pay attention to the claims so it is better that you go to a lawyer.
